WILLIAMS Percy (1908 - 1982) Canada / Track and Field
The winner of the 100 m and 200 m, he was the best sprinter at the Amsterdam games in 1928. After victory in the 100 m, he had to wait for a long time before receiving his gold medal since the neither the Canadian national anthem nor flag could be found. He displayed his talent on this occasion, having won the Canadian trials. He deserved credit for this feat, having hitchhiked across the country in order to take part. Yet this wasn't Williams' sole exploit. As a child, he suffered rheumatism and it was said that he would never be able to practice sport.
