BOIS DE BOULOGNE France
During the 1900 Paris games, due to the lack of an approved venue, the athletics events took place in the Bois de Boulogne, where the 'Racing Club de France' were proprietors of some land and buildings. These improvised venues became famous during the hammer and discus events. A tree hindered the athletes' throws. Only a small number of athletes managed to avoid hitting the tree. Such improvisation in today's competitive games would be unheard of.
