To this day, he is the only French Olympic swimming champion. He won the title for the 400 m free-style event at the 1952 Helsinki games. Immediately after his victory, Jean Boiteux's father, jumped fully-dressed into the pool, to the delight of the photographers and reporters, who sent the picture all over the world.
