Known as the "Nureyev of the ice", he did not convince the judges, who found him too insipid. The ice skater had to wait until the 1976 Innsbruck games to be justly rewarded for his talents. Immediately after his success at Innsbruck, he won the European and world championship titles. He retired from competitive skating after this Grand Slam victory.
