EYSER George (born in 1871) United States / Gymnastics
This American gymnast was a walking miracle. After having his leg crushed by a train and then amputated, he went on to compete with an artificial leg in the Saint Louis games of 1904. This handicap did not stop him reaping a "paltry" four gold medals for the parallel bars, the vaulting horse, the all-round competition and the rope climb. To these four titles should be added two silver medals and one bronze.
