FIEDLER Jens (1970) Germany / Cycling
As the Olympic speed cycling champion in Barcelona, this German rider arrived at the Atlanta Games as the favourite. The combination of an impressive physique, ice-cold nerves and his way of intimidating his rivals outside the track ensured he never has great difficulty winning time and again. But things were much harder in Sydney. Frenchmen Gané and Rousseau were the favourites. However, they met one another in the semi-final, which left them drained. Fiedler faced American cyclist Nothstein. It was the latter who surprised everyone by winning the Olympic title. Fielder ended his Olympic career with two bronze medals in the speed cycling and the Keirin.
