GUSHIKEN Koji (1956), Japan / GymnasticsIn the absence of the Russian World champion, Bilozertchev, victim of his country's boycott, this Japanese gymnast won the overall competition and a medal on rings at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. He won over the American, Widmar, by the smallest of margins, 5/100ths of a point. That hadn't occurred for more than 60 years in a general competition at the Games.
