HERIOT Virginie, France / Yachting
Heir to the Grands magasins du Louvre in Paris, Virginie Heriot spent her fortune having boats built for her. She led the French team who won at the Amsterdam games in 1928 on the Zuiderzee winning 3 legs out of 7 in front of the Dutch team. When she was on her boat, Virginie always wore a beret instead of a cap. She disappeared while at the helm of one of her boats in the Arcachon basin, not an area known for stormy waters.
