Having already become Olympic K1 kayak champion over 1000 metres and runner-up in the 500m in Atlanta in 1996, the Norwegian stepped up his performance in Sydney, where he won both the kayak 500 and 1000 metre races. These three Olympic titles make him one of the best specialists of his generation.
