Previously only ever gaining a place in track cycling events, Nathalie from Brittany astounded her team-mates by winning the points race in Atlanta in 1996. Her gold followed on from that of fellow Frenchwoman Félicia Ballanger in the speed competition, confirming the excellence of the French Olympic cycling team. The French brought nine medals back from Georgia, including four golds.
