As a child, Suzie O'Neill was scared of water. A coach managed to vanquish her fear of water by putting her in a swimming pool and preventing her from getting out.The Australian swimmer has since made up for this by becoming one of the world's best. Olympic champion for the 200 m butterfly in Atlanta, she only came second in this category in Sydney. However, she won gold in the 200 m freestyle and also in the team relay event. A bronze medallist in Barcelona, Suzie O'Neill had climbed on to each step of the podiu before finishing her career. She has recently been elected to the Athletes Committee of the IOC.
