Polydamas, a native of Thessaly, was a champion of the pancratium, a contest that was a mixture of wrestling and boxing.He was so famous for his exploits in the ancient games that legends grew up around him. One of them tells how he strangled a lion on Mount Olympus, and another that he died trying to hold up a collapsing mountain.
