This Swiss champion is the greatest figure in bobsleigh events in the 1970s and 80s, yet he only once managed to win a gold medal in the Olympic games, in the two man bobsleigh in 1980 at Lake Placid.To this title he added two silver and one bronze medals. Besides these, Scharer was six times world champion and came second several times between 1975 and 1986.
